Steigenberger Cecil

Heartfelt and central

Since 1929, the Cecil has watched Alexandria’s harbor from Saad Zaghloul Square: balconies over the Corniche, a lobby that remembers arrivals, and public rooms that still carry their period calm. Writers and statesmen passed through—Agatha Christie, Somerset Maugham, Churchill, Montgomery—drawn by the view and the address as much as the rooms. The legend lingers, unforced.

Guestrooms are simple and traditional, many with sea or square outlooks. Ask for a balcony if you can; the tram bell and salt air do most of the scene-setting. Downstairs, the day moves easily between coffee in the lobby, lunch with a glimpse of the Citadel, and a nightcap at Monty’s Bar—small rituals rather than grand statements.

What the Cecil offers is not spectacle but vantage: a steady sense of place in the center of the city. Book it when you want Alexandria at your window and a little history in the margins.
