Le Metropol

On the Corniche at Saad Zaghloul Square, Le Metropole looks straight onto Alexandria’s harbor: wrought-iron balconies, high ceilings, and salons that keep their Belle Époque calm. Opened in 1902 and purpose-built as a hotel, it sits in the heart of Raml Station—an address long tied to the city’s promenades and conversations.

Rooms are traditional and bright, some with sea-facing balconies; the appeal is period character and outlook more than flash. Public spaces carry classical detailing and polished wood—quietly atmospheric in a way that fits the building’s age.

Evenings gather upstairs at Sky View, the hotel’s rooftop fine-dining room—French-leaning menus, live music some nights, and a sweep of bay lights that does most of the scene-setting. Downstairs, a second dining room and a small bar keep things simple between walks along the Corniche. (Note: the hotel does not have a pool or private beach; guests can arrange access at a sister property for a fee.)

Practicalities are easy: central location for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Cavafy Museum, and the tram; check-in typically 15:00, check-out 12:00. It’s a good fit when you want harbor views, walk-everywhere convenience, and a layer of old-world Alexandria without pretense.
